1. What the Order of the European Lion is – and is not

• The Order is a non‑profit association (VZW) headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

2. Who can be nominated?
Anyone who has demonstrated merit in one of the following categories: Sport, Science, Arts & Culture, Philanthropy, Diplomacy, Volunteering, Career Achievement, Social Impact, Innovation, Heritage, Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, International Cooperation. The nominee must act in accordance with the values of the Order and be of good conduct.
3. Who may nominate?
• An independent proposer: someone who is not the nominee.
• The proposer must be able to explain the nominee’s merits in detail.
• Direct family members may not nominate or act as witnesses.
4. Are self‑nominations allowed?
No. A distinction is a form of recognition granted by others and cannot be requested by the person themselves.
5. What is required for a valid nomination?
• A clear and honest motivation.
• Support from two witnesses (not family).
• Complete and correct information for all parties involved.
• Optional supporting documents to strengthen the application.
6. How is the assessment carried out?
• The Chapter evaluates each application independently and carefully.
• Additional information may be requested if necessary.
• The decision of the Chapter is final.
7. Can an application be refused?
Yes. The Chapter may refuse an application without providing a reason.
No discussion or correspondence is possible regarding a negative decision, for privacy and protection of the applicant or nominee.
The decision is final and irrevocable.
8. Is the distinction free of charge?
Yes. The application and official recognition are free of charge, as is the certificate.*
A luxury medal box (containing the grand model, small model, and pin) may be purchased if desired.

* Registered shipping of certificates or distinctions is possible at cost.
9. Are ceremonial packages available?
Yes, optionally. The Order offers various ceremonial packages, ranging from simple to exclusive. More information is available upon request from the Chapter.
10. How do I submit a nomination?
Via the official downloadable nomination form on the website or by email. All documents must be submitted together in one dossier, exclusively by email to: info@europeanlion.eu

12. Who administers the Order?
