Nomination Requirements

Every distinction within the Order of the European Lion must be awarded with care, respect, and integrity. Therefore, each nomination must meet a number of clear yet reasonable conditions.

1. You cannot nominate yourself

A distinction is a form of recognition granted by others. A nomination must therefore always be submitted by someone who knows the merits of the proposed candidate and can explain them.

2. The motivation must be clear and well‑substantiated

The nominator must clearly describe:

• the exceptional effort or achievement of the nominee

• why this person, in your view, deserves a distinction

• what impact this has had on others or on society

A warm, honest, and factual explanation is sufficient; it does not need to be an academic dossier. However, the more complete the dossier, the greater the chance of success.

You must convince the Chapter why you are nominating someone.

3. Two persons must confirm the nomination

To ensure reliability, each nomination must be supported by two additional persons who:

• provide their name

• provide contact details

• confirm that the information is correct

These may be friends, colleagues, or involved parties, as long as they are not direct family members.

4. Respect for the values of the Order

Every nominee must act in the spirit of the Order of the European Lion:

• respect

• integrity

• dignity

• responsibility

• honesty

• courage and perseverance

These values form the heart of our distinction.

6. Honest and complete information

We trust that all information is submitted correctly. If necessary, the Chapter may request additional information or contact the provided references.

7. Assessment by the Chapter

The Chapter evaluates each nomination carefully and independently. The decision is final and made with respect for all parties involved.

8. The application and any recognition are always free of charge

The official certificate and the recognition itself are entirely free. Distinctions and ceremonial packages are optional and separate from the assessment.

9. How to submit?

All documents must be submitted together in one dossier.
